Dr. Sharon Gerecht is the Paul M. Gross Distinguished Professor of Biomedical Engineering and currently serves as the Associate Dean for Research at the Pratt School of Engineering, Duke University. She is a global expert in vascular and stem cell engineering, including pioneering the use of engineering principles to understand cell fate decisions for therapeutic developments. Her lab studies how the microenvironment modulates stem cell fate and differentiation to guide tissue healing and regeneration with a focus on blood vessels and their multifaceted roles in tissue performance, aging, and disease. Dr. Gerecht is an elected fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences (2020) and the National Academy of Inventors (2020), and an elected Member of the National Academy of Medicine (2019).
