Dr Dmitry Ovchinnikov is a Scientific Lead and Senior Research Fellow at the Florey Institute, University of Melbourne. For over two decades, he applied innovative genomic engineering approaches to transgenic mice, cell lines, and human pluripotent stem cells to implement tools enabling gene activity manipulation, monitoring, and protein reporters of the (intra)cellular processes. He is continuing to use human stem cell systems to both model human neurodegenerative disease and develop precision medicines for their amelioration. He revived and led the centrally-funded Australian stem cell research facility at the University of Queensland in 2017-2020, and at the Florey established NeuroStem, a platform bringing advanced stem cell engineering approaches to the service of modern neuroscience and other disciplines.
