He is one of the pioneers in developing tumor targeted cytokine immune therapy such as post-translational tumor-targeted cytokine delivery for modulating the tumor microenvironment, causing tumor-specific immune responses and inhibiting tumor initiation, progression and metastasis (Hu J et al, Mol Cancer, 2014; Yan J et al, J Hepatology, 2017; Hu et al, Can Imm Res, 2018; JITC, 2022; Zhao Q et al, JITC, 2019; Nat Comm, 2023; Wu M et al, Nat Comm, 2021). His research yields 123 pubs and 21 patents (issued/pending).
