I am Silvia Sighinolfi, junior Post-Doc in Giuliana Ferrari Lab at San Raffaele Telethon Institute for Gene Therapy (Milan, Italy) and I obtained my PhD degree in the International PhD Course in Molecular Medicine at University Vita-Salute San Raffaele in January 2023. The research of Professor Giuliana Ferrari mainly focuses on gene therapy for beta-thalassemia and hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) biology. My research interests are the cellular and molecular responses of HSCs and bone marrow niche to a range of insults, such as accumulation of toxic molecules, variation in the partial pressure of oxygen and inflammation. In this context, I explored how intracellular iron overload in HSCs rewires their metabolism and affects their self-renewal and differentiation.
