Carmen Menacho is a PhD candidate at the Heinrich Heine University of Düsseldorf, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Alessandro Prigione. She has a molecular neuroscience background from her Bachelor in Biomedicine and Master in Neuroscience at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain. In 2020, she forfeited sunshine to work with stem cells and delve deeper into neuroenergetics in her current laboratory. Her PhD research focuses on discovering new pharmacological strategies for the treatment of Leigh Syndrome using patient-derived neurons and brain organoids to model this rare mitochondrial disease.
