Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Stem Cell Medicine, reNEW, University of Copenhagen, Denmark
Agnete Kirkeby is an Associate Professor and group leader at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Stem Cell Medicine, reNEW at University of Copenhagen (Denmark) and at the Wallenberg Center for Molecular Medicine at Lund University (Sweden). The Kirkeby group uses human pluripotent stem cells for production of regional- and subtype-specific neural cells, and has developed protocols for accurate patterning of neural cells of various regional fates. Together with Prof. Malin Parmar from Lund University, Agnete Kirkeby has developed a dopaminergic stem cell product for treatment for Parkinson’s Disease (STEM-PD), and the team is currently leading this product towards clinical trial. The Kirkeby group further studies early brain development using human stem cell and advanced microfluidic culturing techniques to model the developing neural tube of humans.
